What is the Nursery Education Grant?
The Nursery Education Grant funds Early Years Education sessions for three and four year olds from the term after their third birthday.

Every year term dates are:
* 1 September -31 December
* 1 January - 31 March
* 1 April - 31 August

What does the grant pay for?
The early years education entitlement is for up to twelve and a half hour per week, for between 33 and 38 weeks per year although some settings will be able to offer 15 hours per week (see below). Children can attend fewer than twelve and a half hours a week (or none at all); it's the parent's/carer's decision.

Do I need to be a resident of the borough of Richmond upon Thames?
No, but your child must go to an eligible "setting" within the borough.

What is an eligible setting?
Your child must attend one of the following
* A maintained nursery school or class
* A private nursery registered with Ofsted
* A private or voluntary playgroup registered with Ofsted
* An independent school registered with the Department for Education and Skills
* An accredited childminder registered with Ofsted

Additional services may include –
- Community Childminder - A childminder who has had specific training to offer placements under the ‘Space Carers Scheme’ working in partnership with a number of agencies offering specialist care.
- Accredited Childminder – A childminder who has had additional assessment by the Childminding Development and Network Co-ordinator to offer Nursery Education Grant for children aged 3 & 4 (and in some areas 2 years+). Your child would be entitled to a maximum of 15 hours per week in term time – this could be shared with another childcare setting.
- Support Childminder – A childminder who offers co-ordinated support to newly registered childminders, new network childminders, and childminding professional support groups, and also childminders who need to raise the quality of their practice.
