Translation - English Ethiopia: Beyond the appointment of the ruler, the one ruled must caution us
28th March 2018
Ethiopia People Revolutionary Democratic Front [EPRDF] had spent a week on a meeting to choose its chairman. The elected candidate will be appointed by the country’s House of Representatives as the prime minister. This is the way EPRDF execute its job. Since Hailemariam Desalegn submitted his resignation letter to the council of ministers; the appointment of the new prime minister became a burning issue both within and outside of the country for more than one month. Because of that, it is not surprising if the identity of the person who will resume power became a point of discussion within different section of the community. However, still what should not be forgotten and worry us beyond everything must be about the people. The Ethiopia people have nothing beyond its country. A leader that loves his country above anything must understand the bond between his people and the country. This bond from generation to generation was built with precious sacrifices. However, beyond appointing the leader, the issue of the ruled people must repeatedly worry us a lot. When the new prime minister will be appointed, this fundamental agenda even for a second must not be put aside.
As known to all, when our country is on a cross road and the citizens have been worrying what will happen and when. From this, it is not difficult to understand how much the wellbeing of this country worries its citizens. When we say these sparkling wit people are worrying about their country, they are going to witness crises that have never been seen before in the history of that country in case the wellbeing of the country fallen in a dangerous situation. Our people have sustained the beautiful ethnic diversity until today. However, if this get disturbed we will not going to have a country that we have today. When EPRDF elect and appoint its leader, they must do it putting in consideration not only about their party but also about the country and its people. If they left things to the organization, it become nonsense. The cause of the three years persistent protest and violence that plunge the country in to serious crises is because of the issue within EPRDF. When appointed, the newly elected prime minister must prioritize the public interest. What should hold the sit and the country together must not be the identity of the coming leader, but the vision that he comes with to the helm of the power. Beyond accomplishing the objective of the organization, prioritizing the issue of the public must be above everything. It is clear that the crisis the country has been facing was as a result of not listening to the voice and demand of the public.
If EPRDF thinks that they can go back to their usual way after electing and appointing their leader; it is also another problem. The leader that is going to be appointed must hold the people together, bring equivalent and balanced leadership and create a better Ethiopia as much as possible. That can happen when the EPRDF shows its willingness to bring a reform in the country. What the people of Ethiopia have been repeatedly demanding are; justice, equality and good governance, freedom of expression, to have freedom of participation in a political party they wished, respect of human right and the freedom to peacefully work and reside in their country. The existing crises happened as a result of the lack of peace and need democracy as a solution. When this accumulated grievances boils up, it results in a protest that is difficult to control. The political system in the country have no culture of entertaining the public protests. That was what resulted in a day light killings and destruction of properties. This distressing situation is what has put the country in dangerous condition. The peace of the citizens were disrupted. In the mid of this, they are also other forces that put their hand in the situation and totally worsen the little peace that the country left with. These forces had also played their part in order that the peaceful public demonstrations change its shape and size in to destruction. In between, the people had suffered a lot.
The other thing that has still continued worrying is the mixing up of the political party and the government. In spite of the ruling party and the government having several issues where they intersect, either directly or indirectly; it is known that the roles of that two were mixed up and put the country in danger. This is not only what should be corrected but also what should be completely rid of. When the government engages its function within a boundary line of constitution, its politics should follow its own independent line. The primary role of the government is to respect the advantage of the entire society and safeguard peace and security of its people, whereas the political party should beseech the heart of the public up to the next election and realize its job. As the ruling party exist, the opposition political parties also must present. It must be known that, the difference between the two will be identified only by the vote the citizens will cast. The path that so far followed was wrong as a result several problems were happened in the country. Serious dangers were also as a result created. EPRDF must complete the coming two years by the same feeling and able take the responsibility of making the coming election democratic and justifiable. If the new leader that is going to be appointed realize this main goal, he will be seen as the great gift by the people. Government will come and go but the country will continue exiting with the next generation. Despite questioned later by the coming generation and by the history, it is better to think about the people today.
Now, beyond the EPRDF coalition parties and the main political organization front; the public should come out as a winner. The citizens of the country residing between the four corners must be confident as the sole holder of the power of the government. Whether the one that will be soon appointed or those who will rule the country in the future must know that they have a responsibility that will be equated by the new generation. These generation have also scooped a knowledge of science and technology from the global level and made the country to be among other modern once in the world. It is my wish that peace, democracy and wealthy prevail in the country. Citizens have nostalgia of freedom and democracy they see in other countries. The public have a wish to reside while their freedom and human right get respected. The society must distant themselves from crooked actions that lead to chaos and violence so that it will help transparent and accountable systems to be created. A leader that included this agenda in to his vision plan and prepared provisions for travel can win the heart of the public. Creating a society free from hatred and extremism is possible only when a sense of common goal and vision exists. That is also what the public need.
As we repeatedly say, Ethiopia is a great country. It is also a country of this great nation. This nation bloat with pride, are naturally polite and have subtle observation. If they get a good leader that they trust well, it is historically proved that they can make a great country. Starting from battle fields, several great and respected heroes and figures emerged from this great nation. The results of failing to properly lead this people have been also well observed. Now, Ethiopianism should be allowed to win. When EPRDF is choosing its chairman and appointing the next prime minister in its parliament, beyond the ideology of faction and sided team, must also give a serious attention that there is a common house called country. We Ethiopians, despite having different train of reverie, only for the sake of this great nation and the well being of this country, at this historical epoch, we should have a common country. Any citizen, that strongly adherent and candid to this country should not forget these exemplary and rational people. These people that prioritize their country beyond everything must be listened and respected. People in this country must be above anything! Beyond the election of the leader that is going to be appointed, the issue of the people must caution and worry us.
