German term

dokumentenechte Schreibgeräte

German to English Other SAP
Hi all,

Could do with some help here. The text is about physical inventories. See below:

"Es sind ausschließlich dokumentenechte Schreibgeräte zu verwenden."

My current proposal is "indelible writing instruments" but wondering whether a more common term might be used.

Thanks,

Gavin

There's no mention of any writing instruments; why would there be? Cf.:
https://www.kronauer.de/news/kugelschreiber_und_dokumentenec...

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dokumentenechtheit

The last sentence is especially important; it shows that what pen you're using isn't really the issue. As one Jacksonville company put it:
"Indelible ink is defined as ink that cannot be erased or washed away. All Pilot Permanent Markers, Creative Markers and Ball Point Pens are considered to have indelible ink among writing and marking instruments."

Also, Gavin, this has *nothing* to do with SAP.

OK... ...since there hasn't been any feedback, a few examples.

What I don't quite get... ...is why everyone seems to be focused on the German word "Geräte"? Besides Phil's helpful hint, I would've expected someone to already come up with an idea like "indelible ink" or so? I can post some links later, but that's what I've seen on, for example, gov.uk pages.

After all, what device you're using is pretty much irrelevant, is it not?

Happy Holidays!

I think this may also include printers, in which case 'writing instruments' won't work. After all, people don't use pens very much these days.

Official document standard writing implements

which may well include the need for indelibility; IMO, make it vague and generic in the absence of ore specific info;

German term (edited): dokumentenechtes Schreibgerät

fade-proof and -resistant marker

Unless Germany (echoes of disappearing GDR ink and print), would be useful to know what German-speaking country this is.

Courtesy of and pace ProZ regulars, fade-proof writer - and even recorder, marker being borderline - would suggest a pen or the person.

Goodbye, slán leat in Irish and mar sin leat in Scottish Gaelic!
Example sentence:

IATE: 3504674 1 communications [EDUCATION AND COMMUNICATIONS] information technology and data processing [EDUCATION AND COMMUNICATIONS] COM de RFID-Lese- oder Schreibgerät EP en RFID reader or writer
