Who am I?

I am a professional and highly skilled translator, proofreader and reviser. My love of linguistics, foreign languages and cultures, languages for special purposes (LSPs), terminology and the written word in general give extra polish and flair to my work.

What is my experience?
I have worked for more than eight years as a freelance translator for direct clients and translation agencies based in Croatia and throughout Europe. I have also gained extensive experience in the Croatian Translation Unit at the European Parliament. In the past few years I have moved from primarily legal and public sector texts to also include marketing, IT, and localization. As a senior translator and reviser, I regularly review other translators' work and provide them support and coaching.What do I translate?

For those who want to know how I work...
I understand how the translation process works and I always try to analyze the underlying structure of a given text for translation and all of its aspects (grammar, semantics, pragmatics, style, terminology). This is crucial to detect possible problems and to find out the right solution while dealing with them.
In my opinion, one of the major errors a translator can make is the unjustified use of calques. This technique is directly reflected to the quality and readability of the translated text. That’s why the most important thing for me is to translate according to “the genius of the language” (which varies in different LSPs). I pay special attention to fully respect the rules of the Croatian standard language. When I read the final version of my translation, I always do it without comparing it to the original. And then, when my “detector” for idiomatically wrongly transposed elements is at the highest level, I am able to correct all the remaining traces of the foreign language I’ve been “contaminated” with during the process. I will do everything so that our client doesn’t realize they are reading a translation!
