Αιμιλία. Often transliterated as Aimilia, but in my daughter's (British) passport written as Emilia. Stress on the third syllable. (Em-ee-LEE-ya)

The name "Emily" is usually "Emília" in Portuguese, although Emily is also used (as José Henrique pointed out).

However, there is a distinct difference between the name "Emília" (where the "e" is closed) and "é milha" (where the "e" is open) - but not in the Brazilian Northeast, where "Emília" (the name) is also pronounced with the "e" open and strong, something like "ÉÉÉÉÉ-milia".

เอมิลี is the safest spelling. Other pronunciations connote factors of rudeness specific to local people.

There are two different names, Emiliano and Emilio (and Emiliana and Emilia). My husband has aunts called Emilia and Emiliana. V confusing!!

We do not have this name in Turkish which is of Latin origin meaning "rival; laborious; eager". We write in the original way as Emily
