Hi everybody!

I was wondering if any of you knows how to save to file format the e-mail folders in Mozilla Thunderbird (the version I own is 2.0.0.14).
I know there's a way to do it in MS Outlook, but I can't find one to (rapidly) do it in MT...I've managed to save one message at a time (!!!!!!!!!) but it would take ages to do it!!
...By the way, the reason I'm trying to save all this stuff is that I'll have to change my laptop soon, before it dies altogether!!!:(

Move your profile folder to the new computer Jul 23, 2008

Your profile folder has all your mail and settings. The simplest thing to do is to copy that folder over to your new computer.

Thanks! Jul 23, 2008

Thank you Casey!

I've followed the link and found the profile folder! There are indexes only, though...Does this mean that when I copy that folder to the new computer, all the e-mails will appear in the new Thunderbird??

Thanks a lot for your help!!

It should be located on C:\Documents and Settings\Your name\Application Data\Thunderbird.

Check the size of the folder- it should be quite big.

When shuffling between office and my country place (I have stationary computers everywhere) I take it with me on a backup HHD, replace Profile folder with the current version and have all there.

But I also have a question- is there a way to remove attachments from this folder? Thunderbird saves all attachments (both received and sent) there and thus my "Profiles" folder already is some 10 Gb... and attachments I need I have saved in relevant folders... The only way to remove attachments from messages is manually message by message via File-Attachments and to do it this way would take me to the end of my days..

Hi,
Uldis, You can use this extension to remove the attachments after saving it to your preferred location. However,I don't know any easy way to batch delete attachments from current mails.

By the way there is a completely portable version of TB, so you don't have to overwrite your existing profile, just plug you HDD and use it. However you might prefer to copy it into your desktop computer hard drive so in this case it doesn't make any significat difference.

The link the the portable TB page (just in case) is: http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/thunderbird_portable

mozbackup Jul 24, 2008

There is a backup tool for Thunderbird: Mozbackup.

http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/

It's fairly straightforward to use, just backup your thunderbird profile on your main machine using mozbackup.

Copy the generated backup file to your second machine and restore it with mozbackup.

And that's it all your emails and contacts will have been transfered
