I use PDF files and Office documents in many situations. I convert, create and manipulate PDF files for various reasons. I use the these tools extensively.

Adobe Reader: www.adobe.com
It reads almost all PDF files. Sometimes, it handles damaged PDF files as well.

MS Word: office.microsoft.com/en-us
It has one of the best built-in editing tools for any document.

I don't see how this can be considered a translation task. I insist that my clients do this kind of donkey work themselves, and nag them constantly so that they DON'T send me unmanageable texts like this. Otherwise, I tell them I'll charge extra for all the time and effort involved - and that usually does the trick!

I agree with Neilmac. We're translators, not extractors of text from PDF files.
