How to translate untranslatable text?

Translation practice is supposed to be carried out like this way. Assuming one thing is described in two different languages, sometimes the structure may be to some extent or totally different. In dealing with untranslatable texts, my theory is: Forget the source sentence after I totally understand the meaning of it, then rewrite what I learned from the source into the target language, even breaking up into two target sentences if needed.
