Anybody visited Proz on Linkedin lately? What has happened with this group? I thought it was a discussion platform for profesional linguists, just like this forum, but it looks more like a bin for unsollicited adds and junkmail.

Just for the fun of it, have a look at the Group rules, specifically rule numer 1 and 3. Are all the moderators sleeping?

I find no group for ProZ.com. There is a company profile, though. What is the URL of the group you're referring to?

It is called "Professional translators and interpreters" Dec 27, 2018

If you search for something like this in the groups section, you may find the group. I think the name "proz" is referred to in brackets, if I am not totally mistaken.

All Linked-In translators forums the same... Dec 27, 2018

Robert: Someone else also posted something recently on a Linked In translators' forum almost identical to yours, asking "are the moderators sleeping?" (I don't know if that was you and I can't recall if it was the PROZ site). I check pretty regularly about 3 or 4 translators' forums on Linked In (not just Proz) and they are all pretty much the same -- literally. Full of the same ads for various companies offering seminars, conferences, etc. + ads by individuals advertising themselves. Every once... See more

Every once in a while someone gets scammed and there's some advice offered, or an interesting article to read, but that's fairly rare. Just the other day, in fact, I was thinking about these ads/commercials on Linked In and concluded that commercialism in all of its guises has pretty much taken over the translation profession.Collapse

PROZ URL on Linked In Dec 27, 2018

Samuel: this is the URL: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/138763/

At the top of the page it's listed as "Professional Translators & Interpreters (Proz.com)

It's listed as a "Standard group."

I can't recall, but I think you have to sign up for it.

A Spruce Goose Dec 28, 2018

LinkedIn is a waste of space. Surely I can't be the only one who finds it irritating to keep receiving links in my e-mail inbox which, once clicked, expect me to jump through additional hoop of signing in again before I can see the latest frippery.

Okay... Dec 28, 2018

Okay, so I tried to sign up for it now.

It's got around 80 000 members (I wonder if they were all added individually by a poor sleepless moderator). There are also 7 moderators (some of them ProZ.com staff). The group is first mentioned on the forums in 2010 (Romina), at which time there were "over 11 000" members. I get the impression the creation of this group was part of ProZ.com's marketing team's decision to create a page for ProZ.com on all major social media sites, when it was the in-thing to do.

I'll have a look at what's going on there as soon as my join request is approved.

Yes that was me, but I didn't get a lot of response, so I decided to ask the question again, but this time on this forum, in the hope that at least one of the moderators will wake up.
